Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
The heart asks pleasure first,
and then, excuse from pain,
and then, those little anodynes
that deaden suffering.
And then, to go to sleep
and then, if it should be
the will of its inquisitor
the privilege to die.
El corazón pide placer primero.
El corazón pide placer primero,
después, ser excusado del dolor,
y luego esos pequeños detalles anodinos
que ahogan el sufrimiento.
Y luego ir a dormir,
y más tarde, si esa fuera
la voluntad de su inquisidor,
el privilegio de morir.
